New Zealand Government Scholarships
Manaaki New Zealand International Scholarships
The New Zealand Government provides comprehensive tertiary scholarships for eligible international students, allowing them to study full-time at a New Zealand educational institution or a Pacific university. These scholarships are available to citizens from select countries across the Pacific, Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean. The scholarship package covers full tuition fees, a weekly living allowance of NZ$531, an establishment grant of NZ$3000, as well as medical and travel insurance. It also includes the cost of travel to and from New Zealand at the beginning and end of the scholarship period, return trips home during the scholarship, and financial assistance with research and thesis expenses for many postgraduate students.
University of Auckland International Student Excellence Scholarship
The University of Auckland offers the International Student Excellence Scholarship to attract high-caliber international students for undergraduate and postgraduate studies. This scholarship is available for students applying to taught postgraduate diplomas or master’s programs of 120 points or more, as well as for those enrolling in undergraduate programs with overseas secondary or post-secondary qualifications. The scholarship is designed to encourage top international talent to enroll in either undergraduate or postgraduate programs of one year or longer. Up to 50 scholarships are awarded each year, with each valued up to NZ$10,000 for both postgraduate and undergraduate studies. The scholarships are distributed bi-annually, depending on whether the student starts their studies in Semester 1 or Semester 2.
Tongarewa Scholarship at Victoria University of Wellington
Victoria University of Wellington offers the Tongarewa Scholarship to honor its dedication to the international student community. This scholarship is available to students either beginning their first year of an undergraduate degree or those entering a postgraduate program at Victoria
University of Wellington. Recipients of the Tongarewa Scholarship are expected to serve as ambassadors for the university and participate in relevant events or marketing activities if requested. There are up to 10 scholarships worth NZ$10,000 each for undergraduate and master’s programs, and up to 9 scholarships worth NZ$5,000 each specifically for master’s programs.
University of Otago International Research Masters Scholarships
The University of Otago provides the International Master’s Award to support international students pursuing a thesis-based master’s degree at the institution. This scholarship includes an annual stipend of NZ$17,172 and a tuition fee waiver for one year, limited to the domestic rate for master’s studies (excluding student services fees and insurance costs).
University of Waikato International Excellence Scholarships
The University of Waikato offers International Excellence Scholarships to outstanding international students who exhibit excellent academic performance and the potential to become global ambassadors for the university. These scholarships are available to new students enrolling in either undergraduate or postgraduate programs at the University of Waikato. The scholarship amount can be up to NZ$10,000, which is applied towards tuition fees.
